NON-SMOKING HOME (Ask us for more photos) Antique Victorian, Solid Oak Armoire with Double Doors and Large Bottom Drawer "KNOCKDOWN" 86" H x 55" W x 23" D (at the base) 18 1/2" D (at the top) Drawer itself is 45 1/2" W x 19" D This spectacular Antique, Victorian Armoire is quite unique in its design. It is made with pegs and holes so that it can be collapsed and moved from room to room easily. It's an ingenious design called a "knockdown" and it's rarely seen in such a large piece. The whole armoire can be taken apart into a stack that is 65" W x 27" D x 33" H. (See bottom photo) It will fit in the back of a minivan. The bottom piece is one large drawer that sits on the original cast iron and wood casters. It also has the original hinges, and brasswork. One of the keys is original. The other is a replacement because we wanted to have keys left in each keyhole and not have to move the one key back and forth. The top section breaks down into sides, doors, shelves and top with dowels and other wood attachments. The only screws in the assembly support the two back panels which, when in place, complete the structural integrity of the piece. Once assembled, the wardrobe is extremely stable. The original old hinges slide into each other. The patina is very evident on the back panel of the armoire. We assume that the doors originally had mirrors on the inside. We have put up cloth inserts over board that can easily be removed should you choose to replace the mirrors. We have not attached these in any way so no damage was done with the cloth inserts. We just made them to fit snuggly into the recessed areas on the doors. We've had this piece for many years and converted it into a stereo cabinet for our family room. We converted it in such a way as not to damage the value of the piece. The set of drawers was constructed as one piece and can be removed so as to put it back in its original condition. They were custom made to accomodate CD's, DVD's, and VHS Tapes. (One drawer will hold 125 CD's.) This could also be used as a wardrobe in the bedroom in its current or original condition.
